Motherland Community Project

The Sertoma Club of Springfield joined Motherland Community Project on August 2, 2025 to celebrate the conclusion of its summer program, 'From Seeds to Table,' for students from K-12th grade from disadvantaged neighborhoods in the city. With a $2,000 grant from Sertoma International, the Motherland Community Project was able to purchase seeds and plants, in addition to provide program materials. Sertoma joined a variety of other community partners in supporting programming at Motherland. During the summer as the plants grew, students learned about urban agriculture and the advantages of healthy eating and lifestyles. The August 2nd celebration featured outstanding students, a variety of garden produce, music, and food. Susan Allen, Sertoma Club of Springfield President, who attended the event along with four Board members, praised the Motherland Community Project and its founder Yves Doumen for services provided to the City of Springfield.

Sertoma International Executive Director Jason Camis said regarding the grant, "We are excited to help the Sertoma Club of Springfield further its mission of fostering a stronger, more connected community in Springfield, while also contributing to Sertoma's enduring legacy of Service to Mankind."
